Dave Matthews Band is an American rock group that began as a college band, formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. After making their name in small venues, frat houses and other college venues, the band grew a large and dedicated fan base. Under the Table and Dreaming, their first studio album, was released in 1994 and launched their first commercial hits "What Would You Say" (featuring Blues Traveller's John Popper on harmonica), "Satellite", and "Ants Marching". The band received four Grammy Award nominations in their first two years alone, which propelled them to international stardom. Dave Matthews Band has sold over 50 million records worldwide as of 2010, and their 2012 number-one album Away from the World made them the first group ever to have six consecutive studio albums debut in the top spot. The band is known for their annual North America summer tour, which sees them perform improvised “jams” of their songs, with elaborate video and lighting effects, creating a captivating stage show that continues to be popular, year after year.
