Formed in 1973, American rock band Heart rose to fame in the mid-1970s, and returned to even greater popularity in 1985 with a change in direction towards AOR and power ballads. To date, Heart has sold over 35 million records worldwide, including over 22.5 million in album sales in the U.S., and the group was ranked number 57 on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock". The band has seen top 10 albums on the Billboard Album Chart in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s, making them one of the most commercially durable hard rock bands in history.
Joan Jett (born Joan Marie Larkin) started her musical career as a founding member of the Runaways, taking over as frontwoman for their latter two LPs Waitin' for the Night and And Now… The Runaways, after former lead singer Cherrie Currie left the band. When The Runaways disbanded in 1979, Jett moved on to the project she became best known for: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Their record "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in a row and is Billboard’s No. 56 song of all time. Jet has released two solo studio albums and ten studio albums with the Blackhearts.
American rock band Cheap Trick formed in Rockford, Illinois in 1974. The band recorded their first official demo in 1975, and in 1976 were signed to Epic Records. Their eponymous debut album was released one year later to critical acclaim, although it did not match that success commercially. All three of Cheap Tricks first albums became gold records in Japan, and when they arrived to tour the country for the first time in 1978, they were greeted with a hysteria akin to Beatlemania. Their live album recorded on the tour, Cheap Trick at Budokan, propelled the band into international stardom, and the LP went triple platinum in the United States. The band has been ranked No.25 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
